PRINTS FOR ALL - A Day Not to Be Missed

Your Club Secretary will shortly receive the publicity poster and also announce the “Prints for All” Event taking place on Sunday 7th November. You will possibly notice that due to catering problems at the Latton Bush Centre, Harlow it has been necessary at fairly short notice, to change the venue to Whittlesford Memorial Hall (near Duxford). Our speakers on this occasion are:

Christine and Don Langford both LRPS CPAGB APAGB (Don is currently President of the PAGB) with “Images by Accident” – monochrome and colour prints. Don and Christine first met at Potters Bar and District Photographic Society in 1984, continuing their interest in photography when they moved to north Wales in 1990. Don’s says his first love was darkroom photography but they both embraced digital a few years ago and continue to learn about Photoshop. Most of their pictures are taken on holidays – favourite destinations being France, Venice and the Lake District, which will no doubt be evident in their talk.

He was born in Kingston-upon-Thames and emigrated to the US in the 1850s. He captured many other images of humans and animals in motion and was also known for his vast panaromics of American landscapes.

This exhibition opens at Tate Britain on 8th September and runs until 16th January 2011. More details may be found on the Tate web site.

Teamwork Pays Off

A smoothly-run PAGB Awards assessment took place on the weekend of 24th/25th April thanks to the efforts of many of the Executive Committee and Harlow Photographic Society. It was all down to the organisation of Andy and Daphne Hanson backed up by Eric and Naomi Saul and the willing team of volunteers that beavered away behind the scenes to make it all happen. This did not go unnoticed by the PAGB and Leo Rich, Awards Secretary, wrote to the EAF President, Malcolm Tinn, congratulating the EAF on the excellent organisation (see here for copy of letter).

Another Day of Stimulating Images

The World of Colour event on Sunday 7th March following the Annual General Meeting was another afternoon of stimulating images. Varied Audio Visual sequences from Ian Bateman FRPS MPAGB covering humour, documentary subjects, music, poetry and amongst other subjects. One sequence lasted exactly 4 minutes, 8½ seconds about the measurement 4 feet 8½ inches – a very witty sequence – those who saw it will never see the World in the same way again!. If you were not there you will now be left wondering just what you missed and what it was all about!!
