2015 Club Print Championship

The Results

Best Print: 'Pier Eleven' by Ian Gostelow of Biggleswade & District Camera Club

On Sunday 8th March 24 clubs took part in the Club Print Championship to find the top EAF club and to select two clubs to represent the EAF at the national Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) Federation Club Championship in October this year.

Yet again it was a warm sunny day which meant lunches could be eaten outside as well as club members getting together to chat to friends they’ve made from other clubs, which was great to see.

We saw 15 images from each of the 24 club in the first part of the Championship / Round One. It was good to see a new club, PICO, taking part just weeks after they joined the EAF. The top ten scoring clubs progressed to Round Two, the cut off score being 164.  Norfolk Photography Group just missed out with their score of 162. Well done to the clubs which did get through to Round Two, they were: Beyond Group; Bottisham & Burwell PC; Cambridge CC; Chelmsford CC; Colchester PS; Harlow PS; Ipswich +DPS; St Neots +DCC; Thurrock CC and Ware +DPS.  It was great to see St Neots in the top ten, I believe for the first time - certainly since 2007 when I took on the job of Championship Secretary.

The final Print Club Championship results were:
Winning club gaining the Ken Ratley Trophy – Beyond Group
Runner up club gaining the Eric Saul Memorial Trophy – Ipswich +DPS
Third placed club certificate – Thurrock CC.

This is, I believe, the first time Thurrock CC will represent the EAF, so many congratulations to them.
Ipswich +DPS and Thurrock CC will represent the EAF at the PAGB Federation Club Championship at Ellesmere Port in October this year along with Beyond Group who gained automatic entry by coming 2nd in the 2014 ‘Final’ round of the PAGB Federation Print Club Championship.

My thanks go to everyone who helped with the running of the day and who made everything possible – the clubs, the Executive Committee and spouses.  Special thanks go to the tethered link specialist, Ian Wilson, who is not on committee but comes to help the EAF on this day.  Finally, thanks to the judges, Peter Cheetham, Clive Tanner and Peter Young who did a great job. Their personal awards were as follows:

The Best Print of the day – ‘Pier Eleven’ by Ian Gostelow of Biggleswade & District Camera Club

Peter Cheetham award – ‘Out in Front by Roger Hance of Ipswich & District Photographic Society
Roger has had a particularly good year in EAF Championships as he also got a judges’ award and Best image at the PDI Championship last month.

Clive Tanner award – ‘Mother’s Protection' by Roy Essery of Colchester Photographic Society.
 alt

Peter Young award – ‘A Gentle Stroll’ by Judy Hodgson of Wisbech +DCC.
Judy exclaimed with delight when she saw her print on the stand for an award.  It is always good to see the actual photographer there on the day to receive their award and see their reaction.

It was lovely to see a couple of individual awards going to members of clubs which did not get into Round Two.

PAGB PDI Inter-Club Championships

Warwick, 14th July 2014

Beyond Group and Cambridge Camera Club were the two clubs selected to represent the EAF at the PAGB PDI Championships on 14th July.  Along with their own members, members from several other clubs from the EAF were also there to give support.

It really is a good day out - as well seeing as excellent photography from across the UK there were several trade stands and a raffle of 41 prizes, the top ones being a DSLR and A3+ printer.  If you didn’t go, you missed a great day.

The style of photography was varied with some excellent landscapes, portraits (studio and environmental), natural history, sport and creative images. I noted several new clubs representing their Federation this year too. There was something for everyone. The three judges were obviously impressed with the standard they saw and gave very many top marks of 15. Choosing between those top marked images for their selectors’ awards and the best image on the day must have been difficult. Unfortunately no awards came in the direction of the EAF this year.

Similar to the EAF Inter-Club Championships the PAGB Championship starts with a preliminary round (in two parts) and a Final when the top 8 clubs take part. Unfortunately neither Beyond Group nor Cambridge CC managed to get enough points to take them through to that Final part of the championships.

Both clubs did go on to take part in the Plate competition for clubs not in the Final. Cambridge CC came 7th= in that and Beyond Group came 24= out of 30. I congratulate both clubs for getting to these championships and thank them for representing the EAF. These two clubs have often represented the EAF - it is not easy to do so year after year especially when they cannot use images they have used in a previous PAGB Inter-Club Championship at either the EAF Championships (to qualify) or at another PAGB Championship.

The EAF Inter-Club Championships will be held on 8th February, 2015 – information will go out to Club Secretaries in the autumn. The next PAGB PDI Championship is on 11th July, 2015 at Warwick University Arts Centre.

On Sunday 9th March 24 clubs took part in the Club Print Championship to find the top EAF club and to select two clubs to represent the EAF at the national Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) Federation Club Championship in October this year.

As often is the case on Print Championship day the sun shone whilst we all sat inside.  It was lovely to sit outside for refreshments and lunch.

Best PDI: No. 432 in the Pouring Rain by Roger Hance of Ipswich DPS

Sunday 9th February was the day that 36 clubs took part in the Club PDI Championship to find the top EAF club and to select two clubs to represent the EAF at the national Photographic Alliance of Great Britain club championships in July this year.

It was good to see so many spectators, from those clubs taking part and a few from other clubs too.  I think the hall was at capacity.  It was our intention to use the new larger hall at Fulbourn but it wasn’t ready and we are not now sure it will be able to be blacked out sufficiently.
