EAF Championships 2010

EAF Projected Digital Image Championships (PDI) and EAF Print Championships - 14th February 2010

These Championships took place at Latton Bush Centre, Harlow. The Projected Digital Image Championship had 35 member clubs taking part and the Print Championship had 25 clubs. A large crowd of club supporters saw 1100 images over the day. The three judges, Leo Rich, Peter Gennard and Mike Chambers did a good job for us of finding our top clubs in the region.

Beyond Group were back to defend their titles of both Projected Digital Image (PDI) and Print Champions of 2009. The PDI took place in the morning. After seeing fifteen rounds of images from each club Beyond Group were in the lead with 174 points. Not too far behind was Norfolk Photography Group with 167 points and Breckland Imaging Group on 165.

The top ten clubs were then selected to show a further ten images. The clubs were at this stage, the three mentioned above and on 164 points Cambridge CC; 158 points Wisbech +DCC; 157 points Biggleswade DCC; 153 points Rushden PS; 152 points Ware +DPS; 151 points Ipswich DPS and 151 points Harlow PS.

After ten more images the tables had turned a little bit but not for Beyond Group who stayed on top. Breckland Imaging Group knocked Norfolk Photography Group down to third and took second place themselves. Most of the other clubs held their position from the first to the second part of the Championship. All points were close - well done to these clubs.

There was just one mark of 15 in the whole PDI Championship and that was 'Dartford warbler calling' by Liz Cutting of Beyond Group. This got the Best PDI image award of the Championship. Leo Rich's award went to 'Tori and her octopus' by Paul Oakley of Beyond Group; Mike Chambers' award went to 'Macaques grooming, Japan' by Jo Cleall of Harlow PS and Peter Gennard's award went to 'Fast and the furious' by Neil Minter of Clacton CC.

The three top clubs will represent the EAF at the PAGB Inter-Club Championships at Warwick University Arts Centre on 17th July 2010.

The Print Championships was in the afternoon was and for the first time in many years we saw Beyond Group in second place after the first fifteen images were marked. Ware +DPS on 170 points were in the lead by eight over Beyond Group with 162. Closely behind them were Cambridge CC on 160 points. The judges were giving a full range of marks and were not afraid of using the '2' button so anything could happen. The other seven clubs who continued on to take part the top ten were, on 157 points Wisbech +DCC; 156 points Chelmsford CC; 155 Norfolk PG; 155 Harlow PS; 153 points Bottisham + Burwell PC; 151 points Ipswich +DPS and on 150 points Swavesey CC.

After another ten images Chelmsford CC made an improvement and drew level on points with Cambridge CC which meant we had a tie situation. The highest and the lowest mark for each club was added together to decide the third and forth club. Chelmsford CC's marks were 9 and 13 while Cambridge CC's marks were 7 and 14. So, Chelmsford CC take third place.

The top three clubs in the Print Championship will represent the EAF at the PAGB Inter-Club Championships at Connah's Quay on 23rd October, 2010.

The day finished just before 5pm. The 2011 EAF PDI and Print Championships will be on 13th February once again at Latton Bush Centre, Harlow.
