Club PDI Championship Report

10th February 2013

Best PDI: 'In Pursuit of the Inedible' by John Bulpitt of Cambridge CC

The main hall of the Latton Bush Centre was filled with club members who had risked the forecast of snow to come to see their club compete in the 5th PDI Club Championship on Sunday 10th February.

34 clubs took part in Round One and the top ten clubs then continued to Round Two. Worthy of note was Bury St Edmunds who had not entered the PDI Club Championship before; they got into Round Two finishing in a commendable 7th place. One to watch perhaps! It was also good to see Ongar Photographic Club taking part, another rookie club to the PDI Club Championship. Shillington +DCC made a welcome appearance after four years away too.

The winning club was Beyond Group who won the EAF trophy, Cambridge CC were runners-up and Ipswich +DPS were third. The top two clubs will represent the EAF at the PAGB Club PDI Championships at Warwick in July.

As well as being a club event there were four individual awards given too. The best image on the day was given to John Bulpitt of Cambridge CC with his image ‘In Pursuit of the Inedible’. The judges each chose their favourite and Martin Fry gave his award to Ian Kippax of Bottisham and Burwell PC for his image, ‘New Brighton Shelter’. Barry Mead’s award went to Richard Revels for ‘Stag Beetles Fighting’ and Leo Rich’s award was given to Jack Gentle of Norfolk PG for his image ‘The Magic of Mushrooms’.

The judges' personal selections were:

Martin Fry: 'New Brighton Shelter' by Ian Kippax of Bottisham and Burwell PC

Barry Mead: 'Stag Beetles Fighting'by Richard Revels of Cambridge CC

Leo Rich: 'The Magic of Mushrooms' by Jack Gentle of Norfolk PG
The Print Club Championship is on 3rd March. Entry has now closed and 24 clubs will take part. Tickets are to be purchased in advance from Naomi Saul.
