EAF Inter-Club PDI Championship 2018

On Sunday 4th February, a recent record 37 clubs took part in the PDI Championship at Fulbourn near Cambridge.  Each club showed 15 images in Round One, aiming for a place in Round Two.  The top scoring 14 clubs progressed to Round Two, showing us a further 10 images with all 25 images counting towards the final positions. This year, only one mark separated the top two clubs but there were 3 clubs tied in third place, so we had to resort to the tie-break formula to separate them.

The final results were:

Winning club gaining the EAF Trophy – Beyond Group

Runner up club gaining the Eric Saul Memorial Trophy – Cambridge Camera Club

Third placed club certificate – Photographic Imaging Co-operative (PICO)

Honourable mention goes to Ipswich and District Photographic Society  and Colchester Photographic Society, who only missed out on third place as a result of the use of the tie-break formula.

Beyond Group and Cambridge Camera Club will therefore be invited to represent the EAF at the PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship to be held in Warwick in July.  It is a good event, and our representatives would welcome some support.  Tickets need to be bought in advance from the PAGB website.

My thanks to everyone who helped to make the day possible – the clubs, the executive, their spouses and friends, Cambridge CC for the loan of their projector, the staff at the Fulbourn Community Centre, and of course the three judges.

The judges selected the following images as their personal choices and their joint choice as the best image in the Championship:

Best PDI of the Championship: "Gap in the Mist" by Keith Millard of Rushden and District Photographic Society

Personal Selection of Gianpiero Ferrari: "Red Kite - Hard Times" by Paul Richards of North Norfolk Photographic Society

Personal Selection of Malcolm Kus: "Trio" by Andy Gutteridge of Photographic Imaging Co-operative (PICO)

Personal Selection of Rikki O'Neill: "Molly's Nightmare" by Malcolm Bumstead of East Ipswich Camera Club

EAF Inter-Club Print Championship 2018

On Sunday 4th March, 29 clubs took part in the Print Championship at Fulbourn near Cambridge.  Each club showed 15 images in Round One, aiming for a place in Round Two. The top scoring 12 clubs progressed to Round Two, showing us a further 10 images with all 25 images counting towards the final positions. This year, the top club was a clear winner but  there were 2 clubs tied in second place, so we had to resort to the tie-break formula to separate them.

The final results were:

Winning club gaining the EAF Trophy – Beyond Group

Runner up club gaining the Eric Saul Memorial Trophy – Cambridge Camera Club

Third placed club receiving a certificate – Ware & District Photographic Society

Beyond Group and Cambridge Camera Club have an automatic entry into the PAGB Inter-Club Print Championship based on reaching the final last year.  As a result, Ware and District Photographic Society and the Photographic Imaging Co-operative (PICO)  will also be invited to represent the EAF in Blackburn in October.

The judges selected the following images as their personal choices and their joint choice as the best print in the Championship:

Best Print in the Championship: “Sisters” by Roy Essery of Colchester Photographic Society

Personal Selection of Bob Moore: "Heartbreak at the World Championships" by Peter Milsom of Ware and District Photographic Society

Personal Selection of Sue Moore: "Snow Dust" by Peter North of Melbourne and District Photographic Club

Personal Selection of Howard Tate: "Via Newbury Park" by Paul Mee of Loughton Camera Club

The autumn adjudication was held in Colchester, hosted by the East Anglian Federation. We were very fortunate in having some excellent facilities at our disposal; maybe I'm biased, but I do think it was one of the best that I have attended over the past five years. The weekend went very smoothly and my sincere thanks go to members of the Executive who assisted and also to my own club. I had offers of help from many other people.

The EAF had 59 members applying at all levels and, 34 being successful, this was our highest application and success rate in many years.

The April adjudication is now closed and is being hosted by the L&CPU on Saturday/Sunday 21st/22nd April 2018 at St Mary's Parish Centre, West Street, of Devonshire Road, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 2SR. The books for the November adjudication are open but don't delay in applying. This will take place over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday the 24th/25th November 2018, although the venue is not known at this moment.
